Greetings –
I just had the pleasure of attending a presentation for the Truckee River Watershed Council and it was very informative to learn about restoration projects they have completed and have scheduled for the future. Many of you are familiar with the real estate private transfer fees in our community, which have been a stable funding source for many organizations including the Truckee River Watershed Council. The Watershed has received over $180,000 from these transfer fees to help support stream restoration projects such as Perazzo Meadows where they have helped return the Little Truckee River to its original channel. This will improve the habitat for native fish such as the Lahontan cutthroat trout as well as offer interpretive trails, picnic areas and a beautiful setting for families to enjoy. Having grown up in Truckee and recreated at these areas, this is something that is very important to me as I am raising my own family and look forward to preserving and sharing the same beauty I experienced growing up. I can’t thank organizations like the Watershed enough for all of their volunteer work over the last 20 years with over 200 projects and 200,000 volunteer hours.

If you are a homeowner within the Watershed, there is a program they are rolling out called River-Friendly Landscaping which will help with soil loss from homeowners properties. Soil erosion and sediment that flows into the river is one of the biggest challenges they face as it clouds the water and can interfere with fish reproduction. The Watershed provides free site evaluations, site plans, homeowner assistance and are offering up to $1,000 rebate while available. You can call 530-550-8760 or sign up online. ACTIVITIES
With a little rain and snow, the trails in town at lower elevations are absolutely beautiful right now. Get out and enjoy a hike or mountain bike on some of the amazing land preserved in and around the area such as the Emigrant Trail that goes out to Stampede Reservoir and back. This trail has fun history and is perfect for beginners and intermediates for hiking and biking.
