Greetings –
We have had a few wet storms that have provided some high elevation snow and the night time temperatures are cold enough for the ski areas to go full force with snowmaking. I have already skied a few days with my boys at Squaw Valley and had one day in the backcountry at Mt. Rose. We look forward to Northstar hopefully opening tomorrow if the snow making goes as planned.
Northstar Opening Day
Northstar is now scheduled to open for skiing on December 1st. The Village at Northstar will be hosting Noel Nights starting at 4pm with various events for the entire family. There will be photos with Santa, face painting, DJ on stage and the tree lighting ceremony at 7pm. I am also excited for my personal favorite adult beverage – the Dirty Snowman.
Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows Opening Day
Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows are both open and have decent terrain to ski given the high elevation snowfall. They will also be making lots of snow and hoping to open more terrain soon. You will also find Santa Claus at Squaw Valley this weekend as well as the PlumpJack Fashion Show and Winemakers Dinner.

Activities:
I find myself often saying, “this is my favorite time of the year”, or “my favorite activity to do in Tahoe”. This past Friday was another one with the annual expedition to the woods to find the perfect Christmas Tree. There are many areas close to home in Truckee to find a tree and our visit to Cabin Creek felt like a big adventure that was incredibly easy and convenient. With a $20 permit we ventured into the wilderness and had a day of family fun and memories. Here is a link to the Truckee Ranger District office where you can call about getting a permit as well as directions to Cabin Creek or any other areas you want to explore: Christmas Tree Permits. Not only is this a fun activity for the family, but you are actually contributing to a reduction of over-growth and fuels which is a big help to the forest service to maintain a healthy wilderness.
